Flood Information

Please visit the website of FEMA's national flood insurance program to learn more about flooding and what you can do if you're house or business has flooded. Floodsmart.gov is also available to explain more about flood insurance.

Hancock County has two U.S. Geological Survey stream gauges, one on Sugar Creek in New Palestine and one on the Brandywine in Greenfield.  Water discharge rates and stream height can be monitored online.

For your convenience, two informational brochures regarding flooding have been posted online, Flood Information and Knowing Your Risks.

Your can also check the Hancock County online GIS site to see if any of the property you own in Hancock County is in a flood zone, has a Letter of Map Change or to what FIRM Panel your property is in.  Be sure to expand the Flood layer group and turn on any layers you want to see by clicking the box next to it.  A check mark will appear in the box when it's turned on.  Feel free to contact the GIS office (317-477-1150, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if you have any problems accessing or using the GIS site.
