Public Message on COVID-19

The COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak has caused widespread disruption throughout the world and at home. I believe it is our role and responsibility to continue providing essential government services while implementing preventative measures to ensure the health of the public and our employees during this time. The Hancock County Assessor’s Office is currently closed to the public and working remotely. For the fastest service I encourage members of the public to submit their inquiries to our office via email. If you call our office we have a general voicemail set-up and will respond to voice messages within 48-72 hours. The good news is that we can handle most inquires this way. This is a safer option to provide the highest-level of Assessor services during this public health challenge.

At this time, please understand that longer wait times for services may occur while public access to our office is limited and precautions for unnecessary exposure and social distancing practices are in place.

The Primary Functions of the County Assessor’s Office are:

  1. Assessment of Real Property for Blue River, Brandywine, Brown, Buck Creek, Center, Green, Jackson, Vernon and Sugar Creek Townships.
  2. Real Estate & Personal Property Appeals.
  3. Non-taxable exemptions.
  4. Secretary to the Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals.
  5. Assessment of All Farmers and Business Personal Property -All forms to be mailed to the County Assessor.
