Any activity (except agriculture) in Hancock County "that results in the disturbance of one (1) acre or more of total land area" requires a permit. "If the land disturbing activity results in the disturbance of less than one (1) acre of total land area, but is part of a larger common plan of development or sale, the project is still subject to stormwater permitting." You must contact the Hancock County Surveyor's Office 317-477-1150 to inquire into obtaining a permit prior to land disturbance.

Please refer to the Hancock Ordinance and Stormwater Technical Standards documents to answer questions related to Stormwater Management in Hancock County. If you are unsure if a land disturbing activity requires a permit or if any questions you have are not answered by the two documents provided, please contact the Hancock County Surveyor's Office.
